Alex Colombo: Warmth in Design

“Partnering To Make the World a Better Place through Art”

I really respond to warmth in design. Warmth is inviting. Warmth feels good. Warmth is perfect for greeting cards because it’s like sending a hug long distance. It’s also perfect for products found in the home because it feels “homey” and comforting.

One artist whose work embodies warmth is Alex Colombo, a licensing artist in San Francisco. I was introduced to her work through another artist at Surtex last year. Alex kindly sent me some samples of her work to use here.

She has a simple, warm, and fun style that I really love. You can find her art on fabric at Spoonflower, and Etsy. She also has a popular blog on art licensing, The Moon From My Attic. Her licensing focus is Partnering to Make the World a Better Place Through Art. I’m always happy to support artists who send good energy out into the world! I hope you’ll check out her website.

Montage Licensing and Surtex

Surtex is just a couple of days away! The Montage Licensing team is already en route to NY, representing the work of 16 artists, (including mine). Surtex, the international marketplace for original art and design, is in its 26th year. Montage Licensing, owned and operated by veteran licensed artist Kimberly Montgomery, is at Booth 464, so be sure to stop by and meet Kimberly and Heather!

Kimberly has been a small business owner for 20 years and a successful licensed artist whose work has been featured on hundreds of products, so she brings years of experience as an artist working with manufacturers and their needs to the job of  promoting and supporting other artists looking to license their work. Kimberly also offers consulting and portfolio review for artists who are looking at licensing as a next step. She's also one of the nicest people you'll ever meet!

I am not going to Surtex this year, but will follow the excitement over the next few days from a few of the artists represented by Kimberly in their popular blogs: The Moon From My Attic, by Alex Colombo, Joan Beiriger's Licensing, Tamara Holland's Bean Up the Nose Art, and Marilyn MacGregor's Artsmarttalk.

Greeting Card Universe Design of the Day April 5

I'm having a great day! I also wanted to share the greeting card that won Design of the Day on Greeting Card Universe, where I have a shop, Blessing Art Cards. On the homepage of GCU, down in the right hand corner, they feature every day's design of the day, and my Hoppy Easter bunnies card was chosen :) GCU is full of fabulous art by 4500+ artists. Be sure to check it out!

Kate Harper Greeting Card Designer Blog and my cat card

I'm really happy to share that Kate Harper has featured one of my cards, which I submitted to her in response to her invitation to share an interesting card design. This is a cat card that's also one of my favorites--inspired by my own cat companions :)  Kate's blog is chock full of great information about greeting cards, "trends, news, and tutorials for professional writers and artists". I've learned SO much from this blog-if you haven't checked it out, you really should.
